Welcome to Brisbane’s Bavarian Bier Cafe

The Bavarian Bier Café at Eagle Street Pier is the first instalment in Brisbane of the successful Sydney franchise. Gauging by its success thus far (down to a myriad of factors – bier selection, menu, location, location, location, fit out and ‘uniforms’), it is just a matter of time before one pops up on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.

Being married to a German and having travelled there numerous times, I feel that I am sufficiently qualified to actually give “my two cents” on authenticity.

I have experienced first hand the authentic food, bier and culture throughout Germany, but in particular Bavaria. I am so happy that Brisbane central now has its very own piece of Bavaria in Brisbane! Prior to the introduction of the Bavarian Bier Café, The German Club in Woolloongabba and (if you wanted to head regionally), King Ludwigs in Maleny (Sunshine Coast) were my personal favourites of an authentic taste of Germany. Well look out, there is a new fave in town!

So you may have heard of it, you may have been to it, but I bet that you didn’t know everything that was on the menu? Of course there’s Pure Bier™;  choose from: Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier Hell, Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier Dunkel, Munich Gold, Munich Blonde, Löwenbräu Original, Stiegl Goldbräu, Spaten München, Hofbräu Original, Hofbräu Dunkel and Paulaner Premium Pils. Hmmm, I bet your palate is salivating by now.

From their website: “As per the strict Bavarian Purity Laws (Reinheitsgebot) of 1516, our award-winning biers comprise just four natural ingredients – malt, barley, yeast and water. This means they not only taste great, but are actually good for you!”.
Check out their Pure Bier info page for all the stats.

Well I do believe that everything in moderation can be good, however somehow the biers are too delicious to stop at a ‘responsible’ amount that wouldn’t require a week on the treadmill to burn off. That is why there is such great Bavarian food to balance it out. The great thing is that they have adapted their menu to also encompass some healthier options. Whilst still featuring the traditional pork knuckle with sauerkraut, variety of Würst (sausages) and schnitzels, they also offer more contemporary Bavarian fare.

One of the venue’s biggest assets is in the location, location and did I say location. With this great spot on the Brisbane River, looking out towards Kangaroo Point and the Story Bridge, the venue lends itself more to groups and functions, rather than a romantic dinner for two. So whether it is a corporate lunch, after-work drinks or weekend catch up, I think I have to agree with their strap line of “Pure Food, Pure Bier and Pure Passion”!
